If you're exploring eastern Jeju in autumn, there's quite a range of places to choose from, depending on how much you want to walk and who you're traveling with. There are serious walking routes like the Seongpanak Trail, which continues all the way to the summit of Hallasan, as well as Geolseoak, where you can look down over the city from an observation deck; Forest Dinosaur Safari, with dinosaur experiences and an indoor play area; and Snoopy Garden House, where you can take your time looking around the theme halls and café.

We've also included the Jeju Olle Walking Festival, held from November 5 to November 7, 2026, around Jeju Olle Routes 19 and 20.

Seongpanak — Where the Longest Trail Begins, on the East Side of Hallasan

Seongpanak is an oreum located around the Seongpanak hiking trail in Hallasan National Park, and it is the largest monogenetic volcano on the eastern foothills of Hallasan. A monogenetic volcano is a small volcanic body formed by a single eruptive episode; in Jeju, volcanic bodies like this are called oreum.

The origin of its name is simple, too. Rock walls shaped like planks (neol) wrap around the mountain's middle slopes and look like a fortress wall (seong), so it is said to have come to be called Seongneol Oreum — or Seongpanak in Sino-Korean. Seongpanak is covered entirely in forest, and large, deep valleys such as Seongneol Valley have formed around it.

Seongpanak Rest Area sits at the highest point, midway along the 5·16 Road that connects Jeju City and Seogwipo City, and this is where Seongpanak, one of the hiking trails up Hallasan, begins. The Seongpanak Trail, the eastern route on Hallasan, is one of the trails — along with the Gwaneumsa Trail — that let you climb to Baengnokdam at the summit, and it is the longest of the Hallasan trails.

So rather than a place to "drop by briefly," Seongpanak suits travelers who plan for a long route and leave plenty of room in their schedule. If you're traveling with others, it's a good idea to agree in advance on how much walking you'll do.

Geolseoak (Geolse Oreum) — Looking Down over Seogwipo from the Observation Deck

Geolseoak is called Geolse Oreum because the mountain is said to be shaped like a geolse (geolsoe), the latch used to lock a door, and the name is also said to come from the oreum area's resemblance to a leopard cat. In fact, there are said to have been many leopard cats on this oreum.

An observation deck has been built here, so you can take in downtown Seogwipo at a glance. If you'd like to enjoy both the stories behind the name and the view, it's a place worth stopping by.

Forest Dinosaur Safari — Dinosaur Experiences and an Indoor Play Area

Forest Dinosaur Safari is a safari theme park with moving dinosaurs and a stamp mission. It has a number of areas, including a photo zone, a healing zone, an experience zone, a painting zone, and indoor play facilities.

In the Dinosaur Safari Zone you can meet dinosaurs, and in the animal feeding experience zone you can touch and feed the animals yourself. In the painting zone, children can try coloring in animals.

The indoor playground zone is a space where you can play regardless of the weather. There are also animal models that children are allowed to climb on, and a space where adults can rest.

Snoopy Garden House — Time to Walk, Look, Eat, and Rest

Snoopy Garden House is a place themed around the Peanuts characters. The Garden House's theme halls are spaces built around the everyday stories in Peanuts episodes and the theme "Peanuts, Nature & Life."

With five theme halls, Cafe Snoopy, and the Peanuts Store, you can spend your time walking, looking around, eating, and resting. It's a good fit when you want to slow down between walking-heavy plans, or when you're traveling with someone who loves the Peanuts characters.

2026 Jeju Olle Walking Festival — On the Olle Trail in Autumn

The 2026 Jeju Olle Walking Festival is a walking festival held over three days, from November 5 to November 7, 2026, around Jeju Olle Route 19 and Route 20.

During the event, there are concerts and traditional Jeju performances, and you can also taste food made with agricultural and marine products from the area hosting the festival. It suits those who want to put walking itself at the center of their trip, as well as those who also want to enjoy the performances and food.

If you're planning eastern Jeju around early November, you might consider marking the festival dates on your calendar first and then fitting the other places in before and after.

The pre-registration deadline is October 9, 2026. If you plan to take part, please check the current way to apply on the festival information page.
